Pews News

19 October 2025

Collect for 18th Sunday after Trinity

Almighty and everlasting God,

increase in us your gift of faith

that, forsaking what lies behind

and reaching out to that which is before,

we may run the way of your commandments

and win the crown of everlasting joy;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

who is alive and reigns with you,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

This Saturday, at St Kenelm’s, the autumn Church Yard Tidy will take place.

You and your gardening tools will be very welcome between 10.00am and 12.30pm. Come along and hear about the plans Upton Snodsbury’s WildLife Group has to conserve and increase the wildlife in the churchyard. Refreshments will be supplied.

Also this Saturday there will be a coffee morning in The Parish Room in White Ladies Aston beginning at 10.30am. The proceeds from the morning will go towards the top dressing of gravel needed on the church path…….see later in Pews News.

A Peopleton big thank you to everyone who helped, partook of or supported in any way, last Sunday’s Harvest Lunch held in the Village Hall.

A time of friendship, fun and good food was enjoyed by adults and children alike and over £300 was raised for the Wick Care Farm.

Started in 2014, this is based in Wick, just outside Pershore and is a welcoming, friendly place where adults and children feel safe and valued.

People with a range of needs are supported to carry out a wide variety of activities based on the farm.

They can get involved in a range of things all designed to help people improve and maintain their mental and physical health. Including: Caring for animals – chickens, geese, duck, pigs and sheep: Horticulture – sowing, potting on and planting, watering, weeding, making compost: Cooking – harvesting and making lunch, cakes, jams, chutneys and cordials: Conservation tasks – feeding wild birds, creating woodpiles and birdboxes, planting wildflowers:  General maintenance: Rural crafts and Walking.

The Care Farm can provide a sense of purpose and achievement. It is a place where people feel valued, respected and appreciated and there are opportunities for social interaction and confidential discussionSkills and a sense of independence are promotedand help is available to aid recovery from illness and trauma. It also provides very valuable breaks for carers.

White Ladies Aston’s church path is used, not only on Sundays by churchgoers but regularly throughout the week by walkers and dogs and it is showing signs of wear. To prevent it becoming a sea of mud as winter progresses, there are plans to top dress it with extra gravel this coming Thursday morning – 23rd October. If you have an hour or two to spare and would like to help please do contact Margaret Haywood on 01905 345371 or margaret.haywood@gmail.com

The gravel will cost around £550 and to help fund this, the proceeds of Saturday’s Coffee Morning in The Parish Room will go towards the project. Why not Call in for Coffee any time from 10.30am up until 12.00noon?  Donations of home-made cakes would be very  welcome and if could bake a cake your support will be appreciated.

For offers of cakes, gravel shovelling or for more information, please do contact Margaret.

And for a little later in the year, once again a request for budding thespians and backroom staff for the Benefice Nativity to take place at 6.00pm on Friday 5 December in the grounds of the Crown Inn, Peopleton. If you would like to take part or help backstage please contact Scott Harrington on 07743 723286 or Revd Claire as a matter of urgency. Scott and Claire are looking forward to hearing from you!
